Weekly Wrap: May 5th

Tri Clinics, Saunders Beach Race, Expo, Dam Tough, May Mahem
Hello All and Happy May :-)

Hope everyone is healthy, uninjured and full of training mojo! As the rain dries up and the days get cooler, I have to say that Townsville is a pretty perfect climate for our training! Tubruk is starting to get a little nippy for the first 5 strokes, after which it is just glorious. The coffee is drinkable at Juliettes after a long ride, and no longer do you feel you have to order it on ice. And running with the Road Runners crew at 5:30pm on the red track no longer feels as though you’re doing intervals in a sauna. I hope all of you are making the most of the cool change!

SAUNDERS BEACH TRIATHLON – Get Pumped!

Sunday 19th June is the date for the Saunders Beach Triathlon. This is going to be a signature event in the TTC calendar each year. An event invite will be sent out shortly but the details are as follows:

Distance: 1k swim, 30k ride, 8k run (short distance and Jnr distances will be advised shortly)

When: 11am Sunday 19th June – (sleep in!!!!!)

The triathlon will be followed by a BBQ lunch and then back into town for an all ages Sunday Sesh at the Herbert Hotel! So would be great if everyone marks the whole day out of their diary!

As the majority of the committee members are keen to race, we will be calling on volunteers to help things go smoothly on the day. We will need approximately 25 volunteers so please email admin@townsvilletriclub.com.au . We have already had the Ryder family volunteer to man a water station, so would be great to get another family to man the second station. Kids love giving out water to the runners so it’s a great way to get them involved.

TRYSTAR JUNIOR RACE THIS SUNDAY

TRYstars (8-12 years) and Juniors (13-19 years) Triathlon Race this SUNDAY 8 May @ Riverway. Transition opens at 6.15 am. Race starts at 7am. $10. Please email admin@townsvilletriclub.com.au for your registration form. This is a Triathlon Queensland supported event and a special event for our juniors only. Volunteers also welcome to help out as marshals.

ALLCOMERS TRIATHLON CLINIC

It’s not too late to register for the ALLCOMERS TRIATHLON CLINIC on Saturday 7 May. Register for AM session @ Reid Park or PM session @ Riverway or attend both sessions. Email admin@townsvilletriclub.com.au to register. All details on Facebook Page Event.

MAY MOUNTAIN MAYHEM

It’s Mt Stuart time again. Tuesday hill rides will leave from Rising Sun at 5am every Tuesday of May. (I am already having nightmares about the 4:20 alarm going off). Never done Stuart? Now is your time! Great for building strength in your legs.

Push your limits on hard training days such as Stuart. You may suffer. You may be the last one up the mountain… but this kind of conditioning will make you better. The logic is to train hard enough that two things happen. First, when you recover, you will get stronger. Second, the training is so hard that the race is easier!

Mick has even promised that there will still be a Juliettes stop when we get back. (note this ride generlly does not return till about 7:15)

The Friday beginner rides are also joining in – starting from tomorrow they will be doing Castle Hill, leaving 5:15 from Officeworks.

DAM TOUGH DUALTHLON

Registrations open soon for the Dam Tough Duathlon on 22nd May. Click on the following link for details http://smarttrainqld.com.au/
Please note this is not a TTC event so any questions should be directed to Smart Train.

LIVE2PLAY EXPO

Hope to see a lot of our members through the Live2Play Expo which is taking place over the 21/22 May at Queens Park. TTC will have a tent set up and committee members will be available to answer questions, give advice and generally promote the club and out events. You can pick up our race calendar for the rest of the year, sign up as a member, buy some nutrition and tri related merchandise, and check out our up and coming uniforms all in one day!

That’s a wrap!
