Q&A

Everything you need to know about the Townsville Tri Club

If you have any concerns please read this collection of frequently asked questions before contacting us. If you are still unclear about something feel free to contact us.

Do I need to be a member before I attend training?

No you don’t need to be a member of the club to train with us.

What benefits does membership provide?

To be a Triathlon Australia member is to be part of a unique community investing in the lifestyle and sport that they love. By becoming a member, you’re becoming part of our lively and passionate community, and helping us to ensure vitality and growth of triathlon within Australia – something we are deeply grateful for.

Your membership contribution ensures that Triathlon Australia is able to deliver vital services that support the maintenance and ongoing development of triathlon in Australia. Membership supports resources like grass root programs, technical officials, event sanctioning, affiliated clubs and coaching.

We strongly encourage you to join an affiliated triathlon club. Clubs offer safe training environments, coaching expertise, a supportive community to train and compete within, and often run their own events. To reflect our support of our affiliated clubs, we’ve kept our club membership substantially lower compared to non-club membership. If you wish to join a club, you should select a ‘Club membership‘ option at the time of joining (note that individual club fees vary by club and are on top of fees outlined in the membership options page).

When joining, you will simultaneously become a member of both Triathlon Australia and your nominated State or Territory Triathlon Association (STTA).

All Triathlon Australia membership packages (excluding all Junior and ITU membership packages) renew automatically on July 1 annually, unless switched off prior. To switch off your membership’s automatic renewal, log in to your Active member portal here and click “Turn Off Auto-Renew”.

Do I need to have a certain level of fitness to join?

We are a very inclusive club and love to encourage everyone to come along to join us.  Fitness levels varies amongst the group from social to competitive.

Where do you train?

Friday & Sunday sessions all commence from the Rockpool on the Strand.  Friday we start at 5:30am and Sunday we rack our bikes by 6:30am.

Where do you swim?

During the summer when there is enough daylight we swim within the stinger net close to the Rockpool.  In Winter we use the Rockpool or enjoy the ocean.

What equipment do I need?

Friday’s training session combines running and swimming so you will need a water bottle, goggles, cap & running shoes. Sunday sessions combine all three sports so will need to bring your bike along with all the gear you use, water bottle, goggles, cap & running shoes.  As this is a longer session you may like to bring along some nutrition such as an energy gel, muesli bar or banana.

How social is the club?

If time permits each session ends with a quick coffee or milkshake from our sponsors Odyssey Cafe, across from the Rockpool.

Do I need to compete in any events?

We organise a series of events each year. These are optional and there is no expectation that you have to compete.  It is rather addictive so we’re almost certain you will join in – eventually.

Do I need to be a member to enter races?

All races, with the exception of aquathons, will be open to Triathlon Australia members only.  This is to keep the cost low for participating athletes.
